Sambo
Sambo is a martial art and combat sport which stands for SAMozashchita Bez Oruzhiya (meaning “self-defence without weapons”).
There are several different types of sambo, but the martial art breaks down into two main categories: sport sambo and combat sambo.
Sport sambo is a competitive form of sambo, and is similar to wrestling and judo. Common moves include grappling, takedowns, and leg locks, which are similar to arm bars but are executed with the legs.
Combat sambo, on the other hand, is a military fighting style that includes usage of weapons and disarming techniques.
Other types of sambo include freestyle sambo, which was introduced by the American Association of Sambo in 2004, self-defense sambo, which is about defending oneself, and special sambo and beach sambo.
Practicing sambo can have many benefits. It can help improve your physical fitness, strength, flexibility, and endurance. It can also help improve your balance, coordination, and reflexes. Additionally, it can help improve your mental health by reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. Practicing sambo can also help improve your self-confidence, self-esteem, and self-discipline.
The International SAMBO Federation (FIAS) is the non-profit organisation and governing body for SAMBO sport. Our products are FIAS approved.
